Mur de glaces

Installation - 2008

Mur de glaces is a bas-relief realised from the construction of the pattern made by black ice-cream cones and expanding foam spray-painted in fluorescent pink and green, directly on the wall. Arranged in diagonal lines they are modeled on the brush imprints of Niele Toroni to become a sculpture playing with the codes of painting and the ornamental.//////The objects repeat and show themselves in a rude state. Imposing architecturally because of their quantity and their colors, ice-cream cones are a pretentious, close substitute for a work of art.///////This work is essentially a question of representation. Formal in nature and made from three simple and identifiable actions put in place repeating the model. Ice-cream cones incite the imagination and recreate together an important historic artwork of painting to criticize the false pretense. The illusion or imitation as a last resort in our contemporary time…
